How we treat
your family’s data.

The short version: we collect only what's needed to run the dashboard, we don't sell or share your data, and you can take it back or delete it at any time.

Alpha-draft policy

This is a plain-English summary written for Pearsight’s alpha. It reflects how the product actually works today, but it has not yet been reviewed by counsel. A lawyer-reviewed version will replace this page before paid launch.

  1. Section 1

    What we collect

Pearsight collects only what's needed to give you a parent dashboard for Canvas: your email address, a password hash, the Canvas access token you choose to share, and the assignment data that token returns when Pearsight calls Canvas on your behalf.

For each kid you add, we store a nickname (your choice — does not need to be a legal name), the Canvas student-id mapping, and any tap-state your kid records (mark-as-done, comments left, etc.). For each caregiver you invite, we store their email and the relationship row that grants them access to your family.

We also collect minimal operational telemetry: error reports without your data attached, web-vitals timings, deploy health, and aggregate query timings. None of this carries assignment text, student names, or grade values.

  2. Section 2

    How we use it

Pearsight uses your data for exactly one purpose: rendering the Pearsight dashboard for the people you've authorized — you, the caregivers you've invited, and any student devices you've paired.

We do not use your data to train models, profile your family, target advertising, or build aggregate "insights" products. We don't have an analytics partnership that watches you across the web.

  3. Section 3

    Who we share with

Pearsight relies on a small set of infrastructure providers — Supabase (Postgres + auth), Vercel (hosting), Cloudinary (image storage for HEIC conversion), Paddle (payments), and Resend (transactional email). Each holds data only insofar as our product runs on their service. None of them receives your data for their own purposes.

We will only share data with anyone else if (1) you explicitly direct us to (e.g., by inviting a caregiver), or (2) we are required by law and have exhausted reasonable avenues to push back. In the second case, we'll tell you unless legally prevented.

  4. Section 4

    Your rights

Pearsight is built for K-12 families. The paying parent (18 or older) creates the family account; that act constitutes verifiable parental consent under COPPA for any child under 13 enrolled within the family. Kids do not have their own login — their access flows through their parent's family account or a parent-issued pair code.

You can export your family's full data as JSON at any time from account settings. You can delete your account and we will remove your data within thirty days from our active systems and within ninety days from backups.

You can revoke any caregiver's access at any time. You can unpair any student device at any time. You can disconnect the Canvas integration at any time — Pearsight will stop fetching from Canvas immediately and the existing assignment data becomes a static snapshot.

  5. Section 5

    Data about your kids

Pearsight is purchased and operated by a parent or caregiver. The Canvas connection that brings student data into Pearsight is the parent's, not the school's. From a privacy standpoint, Pearsight is closer to a family financial dashboard that connects to your bank than a vendor inside the school's records system.

Per-kid nicknames are your choice and don't need to be legal names. Student-paired devices run in a pared-down view and don't receive any data outside the kids you've paired them with. We don't sell, lease, or share student data with anyone.

Pearsight is purchased by parents on behalf of their K-12 children. The paying parent (18+) creates the family account, which constitutes verifiable parental consent under COPPA for any child under 13 the parent enrolls. Kids do not sign up directly — their access is parent-paired only. See Privacy and Security for our full data-handling stance, including FERPA-aligned controls.
