How we treat
your family’s data.

The short version: we collect only what's needed to run the dashboard, we don't sell or share your data, and you can take it back or delete it at any time.

Policy last updated August 5, 2026

  1. Section 1

    What we collect

Pearsight collects only what is necessary to power your family dashboard: your email address, your mobile phone number, an encrypted password hash, the authorization token you provide to connect to Canvas, and the academic records returned by Canvas on your behalf.

Your mobile number is used only to service your account—reaching you about your own account, security notices, and support. We never use it for marketing, we never sell or rent it, and we never hand it to an advertiser.

For each child added to your account, we store an optional nickname (which does not need to be a legal name), their unique platform identification number, and localized activity states (such as task completion toggles and notes). For each caregiver you invite, we store their email address and access permissions tied to your account.

We collect basic operational telemetry to keep Pearsight running smoothly, including diagnostic error reports, page performance metrics, system status indicators, and aggregate database response speeds. Telemetry data is decoupled from account information and contains no assignment text, student names, or academic grades.

  2. Section 2

    How we use it

Pearsight uses your data for one purpose: rendering your family dashboard for the individuals you authorize—including you, your invited caregivers, and paired student devices.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your data. We do not use your data to train artificial intelligence models, profile your family, serve targeted advertisements, or construct aggregate commercial analytics. We are fully compliant with global privacy standards, including GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations), CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act), PECR (Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations), CPRA (California Privacy Rights Act), SOPIPA (Student Online Personal Information Protection Act), COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act), FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act), and PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act).

  3. Section 3

    Who we share with

Pearsight operates using industry-standard cloud infrastructure providers for web hosting, database management, secure user authentication, transactional messaging, and payment processing. Each provider handles data strictly to execute essential system functions on our behalf under binding security and privacy commitments. No third party receives your data for their own independent use. Our analytics system does not collect PII (Personally Identifiable Information), no sites can build profiles on you from our site, and we don't do any Cross-Site Tracking.

We will only disclose data beyond these essential systems if:

    (1) You explicitly direct us to do so (such as inviting a caregiver).

    (2) We are legally required to do so by a court order or subpoena and have exhausted reasonable legal avenues to push back. We will tell you unless legally prevented.

  4. Section 4

    If there's ever a breach

If we discover a security incident that compromises your personal information, we will notify affected families without undue delay and no later than 72 hours after we confirm it. We will tell you what happened, what data was involved, what we are doing about it, and what you can do to protect yourself. Where the law requires it, we will also notify the appropriate authorities.

  5. Section 5

    Your rights

Pearsight is designed & built for families. A parent or legal guardian (18 or older) creates and controls the family account. Under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), establishing the account and connecting student records constitutes verifiable parental consent for children under 13 enrolled within your family module. Children do not hold independent accounts; their access operates strictly through parent-issued pairing codes or family account authorization.

You may delete your account at any time through your account settings, and we permanently delete or anonymize all personal information, student records, and Canvas connection tokens from our active production databases within 30 days. Residual data within system backups are purged within 90 days.

You can revoke any caregiver's access at any time. Students get a unique link to sign in, not a username and password. You can unpair any student device at any time. You can disconnect the Canvas integration at any time. Pearsight will immediately cease fetching new data, and existing retrieved records will remain static until you delete them or close your account.

  6. Section 6

    Data about your kids

Pearsight is purchased and operated directly by parents, legal guardians, and caregivers. We do not sell, rent, lease, or monetize student data under any circumstances. The integration used to bring student records into Pearsight relies on a parent's own Canvas authentication—not a direct vendor contract with a school or school district.

Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), parents have the explicit legal right to inspect and review their children's educational records. When you connect Canvas to Pearsight, you are exercising your FERPA access rights and authorizing Pearsight to process and format those records solely for your family's private use.

Pearsight upholds the core privacy principles of FERPA and student privacy laws:

    • No Re-disclosure: We never share, sell, lease, or distribute student records to third parties or advertisers.
    • Restricted Views: Paired student devices run in a restricted view, displaying only assignments and notes relevant to that specific child.
    • Parental Choice: Per-child nicknames are optional and do not require legal names.
  7. Section 7

    Contact

Use the contact form and pick Privacy — it routes straight to the privacy desk. If you would rather write directly: privacy questions to privacy@pearsight.com, security reports to security@pearsight.com, anything else to hello@pearsight.com. We aim to respond within one business day.

For how we protect your data—encryption in transit and at rest, row-level access controls, and our coordinated disclosure process—see our Security page.

Pearsight is a direct-to-consumer parent dashboard purchased by parents on behalf of their K-12 children. Although we may integrate as an institutional vendor or store a school-wide database it is only in those cases that we would require a district DPA (Data Privacy Agreement). Individual parents utilize their own FERPA-guaranteed right of access to authenticate their personal Canvas observer account. We do not sell, track, or re-disclose student data. The paying parent (18+) creates the family account, which constitutes verifiable parental consent under COPPA. Children do not sign up directly — their access is parent guided. Pearsight aligns with all global privacy standards and children protection standards, including GDPR, CCPA, CPRA, PECR, PIPEDA, SOPIPA, COPPA, and FERPA. See Privacy and Security for our full data-handling stance.
