About · Canvas integration
One Canvas token, generated once per account.
The access token is what lets Pearsight read assignments out of Canvas on your behalf. You create it inside Canvas Settings → New Access Token, then paste it into Pearsight.
A Canvas access token is a long random string that stands in for your Canvas login when an outside app — like Pearsight — needs to read data. It carries the same permissions your account already has, but Pearsight only uses the read-only ones: pulling assignments, due dates, grades, and submission state.
To create one, log into Canvas, open Account → Settings, scroll to Approved Integrations, click + New Access Token, give it a name like “Pearsight”, and hit Generate Token. Canvas shows the token exactly once — paste it straight into Pearsight before you navigate away.
If you lose the token before saving it, no problem. Regenerate and try again. The old one stops working the moment you replace it, so there’s no security risk in iterating.
Key facts
- One token per Canvas account; covers every kid on that account.
- Encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM. Never written to logs.
- Read-only — Pearsight can’t submit work, change grades, or message teachers.
- Built-in 120-day expiry; Pearsight emails you a week early to refresh.
