About · Per-kid nicknames
Personal, not over-exposed.
Pearsight asks for a short nickname per kid during setup. The dashboard, comment threads, filter chips, and the student device's view all use the nickname instead of the official Canvas student name.
The nickname is your choice. It doesn’t need to be a legal name. Family names (“Bug,” “H,” “the little one”) work fine, and so do first names. The dashboard uses whatever you typed.
Pearsight still stores the Canvas-side student name in the database — that’s how assignment records stay aligned between Canvas and Pearsight. But the official name never appears in the UI. Outward-facing copy stays warm but not over-exposed.
You can change a nickname at any time from settings. The change propagates to the dashboard immediately and to any paired student device on its next refresh.
Where nicknames show up
- Column headers + filter chips on the parent dashboard.
- Calendar + Timeline assignment rows.
- Comment thread author labels.
- The paired student device’s dashboard greeting.
- Email notifications about new comments or assignment updates.
