About · Status workflow
For the half-effort that needs a real second pass.
Canvas sees a submission and a grade. You see what actually happened. Redo Needed is the family-side flag for assignments that technically count but really don't — without losing the original grade history.
Some assignments come back graded but obviously incomplete — the essay that’s three paragraphs instead of the assigned five, the problem set with five answers blank, the wrong-file upload that still got a number on it. Canvas treats those as done. Redo Needed says: not done in our house.
Tap Redo Needed and the card moves into a high-visibility bucket on both the parent and kid sides. Pair it with a comment about whatneeds the redo — “you skipped problems 6-10” — and the conversation has somewhere to live until the work actually gets done.
The original Canvas grade stays untouched. Redo Needed is a family-side overlay, not a Canvas edit. When your kid resubmits or you decide the rewrite is good enough, flip to Verified and the assignment closes.
Key facts
